Summer News

Children in Lamaiti with the growing crops (looking cool of course!)

Regular updates from Dodoma

We’ve got a new web page where we will post updates from Tanzania as and when we get them.

UK fundraising

We held a fun Cheese and Wine evening in March which raised almost £200 and introduced new people to the important work we are able to carry out in Tanzania. We have also been invited to speak about Empowering the Future at three different churches and we’re really grateful to have these opportunities.

If you are interested in running an event to raise funds, or raise awareness, for Empowering the Future, please contact us so that we can support you in this.

Farm Twinning

This summer we have launched our ‘Twin your Farm’ scheme.  Our first UK ‘Farm Twinner’ is Jonathan, an organic farmer from St Martin’s in the Isles of Scilly, and he is twinned with Malia. We are hoping to expand this scheme over the coming months.

Linking up with Liora

A volunteer with the US Peace Corp, Liora, is living in Lamaiti for two years, working with pregnant women and young children. She shares  our vision for improved food security and broadened diets and she is encouraging people to engage with the education we are offering which is very exciting.

Next steps …

We have two people in Lamaiti who are keen to learn more about sustainable farming methods so that they can share the knowledge with their communities. It’s not easy for English speakers to find good resources in Swahili, but these potential leaders are keen to deepen their knowledge so this is a great opportunity.

We plan to continue with the building construction. We want local people to understand that we are invested in their future and look forward to using local people to construct this community asset.

Challenges and Needs

Some focus points for those of you who wish to support us in prayer:

  • Improved language skills in Swahili for those visiting Tanzania, as well as a greater understanding of their culture so that we can improve our communication with the community that we are trying to help.

  • Growing a solidarity of farming families in the UK who can show support to their peers in Africa.

Thank you for your continued support!
